When working with departments to use a pooled position number for a posting, please first reference the requesting ORG's established list of pooled positions (accessible through the CORE HRS1450 report). It is possible that an already created position is suitable for your needs. If not, please proceed with this form.
There are layers of information in every student position number. Familiarizing yourself with these layers will help you determine whether a new position needs to be created or whether an existing position title or job title just needs to be edited. Please reference the following example.
Referencing the above example above, please note the following:
After your request is submitted, position related creation or changes (NBAPOSN) are the responsibility of HR Systems & Technology (4 - 6).
Job title editing is your responsibility (7).
Tags are optional and used on the job title only (NBAJOBS) to help students differentiate in EmpCenter between positions that otherwise match (7). Job titles are limited to a total of 30 characters.
The basis, or beginning, of each job title (NBAJOBS) should match the position title (NBAPOSN) from which the job is derived (6 & 7).
The ORG or area where the job resides should be represented – either in full or abbreviated form – in the position title and the job title as well, since the first part of each job title should match the corresponding position title.(1, 6 & 7).
If the employee, job classification and ORG are the same and the duties are similar*, you may use different suffixes to create distinction (1 - 5).
Different job classifications require different position numbers. (Please see Classification & Compensation's Student Job Categories and Rates document for reference).
Similarly, different job duties require different position numbers.
Different ORGs require different position numbers.
*Similar means slight differences only – such as algebra tutor vs. calculus tutor, strawberry picking vs. blueberry picking or one supervisor vs. another
