Adobe Reader Information
Our online tasks make use of Adobe pdf formatted forms. You need to make sure you have Adobe Reader installed on your PC, which is a free program available by download. You may also have Adobe Professional but this is a purchased program with additional features that you do not need in order to open OSCAR forms. Click here to download Adobe Reader if you do not already have it. After the file has been downloaded, you will need to install it. Locate the file on your hard drive and double click on it.
If you have pop-up blocker(s) on your PC, you may not see the resulting form appear on your screen and thus believe that the task is performing incorrectly. The blocker may be not allowing the form to appear rather than this being an error with OSCAR. To correct this, please either disable any pop-up blockers you have OR you may be able to set your preferences to enable pop-ups from the OSCAR site while still preventing pop-ups from other sites. This will allow the OSCAR forms to appear on your screen.
- Internet Explorer: Look under Tools, Pop-Up Blocker.
- Mozilla Firefox: Look under Tools, Options, Content.
- Google Chrome: Look under Tools, Options, Under the Hood, Content Settings
Additionally, you may find pop-up blockers within other programs or utilities. If you have a Google or a Yahoo toolbar, please check carefully each of the items to see if you have inadvertently enabled a pop-up blocker. Again, when you find one, you need to either disable it completely or select settings to allow pop-ups from oscar.oregonstate.edu.
Tip: One way to possibly “block” the pop-up blocker is to hold down the <CTRL> key while you click the ‘Continue’ button at the end of the task. This will momentarily disable the blocker and should allow the form to open up on your screen.
Error: Call 737-3474
This is a red error message that will show on your screen if a run-time error has occurred. Sometimes you can simply arrow back to the last screen and see if this fixes the problem. If not then, close OSCAR and get out of your browser. Then re-open your browser, get back into OSCAR, and try the task again. In most cases, you will be able to complete the task successfully and get a resulting form. However, if you get the error message again, please call the number shown above and let the consultant know which task you were in and what you were doing when the error message appeared. Did it show after you clicked ‘Continue’ or perhaps earlier in the task when you were entering data? This information may be important for our consultant to help diagnose the problem.
